Introduction: Pretty Pumpkin Palm Tree

About: I enjoy crafting, photography, gardening and cooking. I am an avid cooking contester and I have won several national contests.
I had bought a pie pumpkin to cook the pumpkin and roast the seeds. I enjoy doing that this time of the year every year. When I saw that there was a Pumpkin Instructable, I thought about making something unique out of the pumpkin that I had already bought. I also had a zucchini squash on hand and I started putting my idea together. How about a palm tree! That would be different. Here is how I made it!

Supplies

1 pie pumpkin

1 zucchini squash

1 white flying disk toy or a dish with a rim

bowl of white sand

sharp knife

cutting board

assorted rocks and shells

Step 1: Place the Sand

Add the sand to the bottom of the flying disk or rimmed plate. Spread the sand out and make space for the pumpkin bottom.

Step 2: Cut the Pumpkin Top

Using the sharp knife, cut long joining V's in the top of the pumpkin forming the leaves of the palm tree.

Step 3: Cut Out the Stem

Cut into and around the stem end of the pumpkin top.

Step 4: Scrape It!

Using the spoon, scrape out all of the seeds and stringy pulp from the top.

Step 5: Cut the Bottom

About 2 inches from the bottom of the pumpkin, cut into and all around the pumpkin bottom. This will be the bottom under the palm tree.

Step 6: Remove Seeds

Scrape and spoon out the seeds from the pumpkin bottom.

Step 7: Cut a Hole

Cut around the center of the bottom of the pumpkin. This will make space for the zucchini.

Step 8: Cut the Zucchini

Cut off the flower end of the zucchini. If it is wider than the hole in the bottom of the pumpkin, cut some strips to make it fit.

Step 9: Form the Palm Tree Bottom

Place the pumpkin bottom face up on the sand. Put the zucchini into the hole of the pumpkin bottom.

Step 10: Add the Top

Push the pumpkin top through the top of the zucchini. If necessary, spear toothpicks into the zucchini to hold the pumpkin top in place.

Step 11: Add Shells and Stones

Add small sea shells and small decorative stones and rocks. I thought the blue tablecloth would give the feeling of the sky and the beach. This was a very easy project to make and I am very pleased with how it turned out. I hope you enjoyed my Instructable showing how to make a palm tree out of a pumpkin! It was a very fun and gratifying project!

Step 12: Check This Out!

I cooked the remainder of the pumpkin and the seeds as I had done in my previous Instructable from 2 years ago. Here is the link to how you can pressure cook a pumpkin and roast pumpkin seeds too. I even included my husband's favorite pumpkin recipe! You can check it out using this link: https://www.instructables.com/Lets-Cook-a-Big-Fresh-Pumpkin/ Enjoy it and Happy Halloween!!!!!
